Description:
Also known as " Point Panic Park", Kaka'ako Waterfront Park is a free public park. The park was first opened in 1992 at the location of a former municipal landfill. It covers about  35 acres just adjacent to the ocean. There is no sandy beach front, accessing the ocean is through some concrete stairs. Kaka'ako is located between Kewalo Basin and Honolulu Harbor. The surrounding is beautiful and grassy.  The hill park provides an incredible view of the sunset, the ocean and of Diamond Head.

The grassy park area provides the perfect spot for family gathering and picnics. The majority of people coming to the park actually seeks some quality time for a picnic, relaxing or to do some fishing. Point Panic Park as it is sometimes referred mostly had been given because of a popular body surfing site just offshore on the east end of the park which bares the same name " Point Panic". The site is strictly for body surfers, no surf board or body boards are allowed. The park also has two other surf sites located on the west known as Flies and Incinerators. Board surfing is allowed on those sites. Diving is also a popular sport particular on weekends, divers can be seen exploring the coral reef.

The Ehime Maru Memorial and the Victim Memorial are located at the Park.  The former used to be a Japanese fisheries training vessel which had accidentally been named by the U.S. Navy submarine Greenville on February the 9th, 2001, The Ehime Maru sank about 9 miles south of Oahu taking the lives of nine crew members and students. The latter, the Victim Memorial, had been sponsored by mothers Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD). The memorial is dedicated to victims and survivors of drunk driving accidents.

I grew up in the days of the big mele and the warp tour, not the best venue for a field concert because the shows (which is usually over priced) end early!
