Frequently Asked Questions
Click on the red "Book It" button and make a request. You will receive a confirmation usually within hours. If it is not available you will not be charged and we'll help you find an alternative date or similar tour.
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
Most companies, if not all, require you to call them if you're trying to book something 2-3 days in advance. Do you really want to be spending your valuable time in Hawaii calling around to desperately find something that is available to do? While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Most companies have a set of centrally located hotels that they do pick ups from. This makes the pickup process short so you can start the tour as soon as possible! When you get to the booking page, select the hotel you are staying at. Your confirmation email will have the pickup location which will either be your hotel, or somewhere within 5 minute walking distance.
Gratuity is never required but if you enjoyed your experience, a tip is always greatly appreciated!

We had an excellent experience on the Polynesian Gold Hana tour a couple weeks ago. Lee was our driver and tour guide and he was just the BEST. Informative and funny, Lee made the long day one of the highlights of our trip. You stop several times, meals were fine, and time for a tiny bit of exploring. We swam in the natural pool below a waterfall. If you're looking for hours of hiking and exploring, ... morethen this isn't the tour for you. But if you want a stress-free ride on this famous, curvy road with lots of in depth info about the island, this tour is wonderful. Mahalo, Lee --wendy and John

Jessica was our tour guide (we booked the Road to Hana during our honeymoon) & she was probably the best guide we could ask for! She was a local and knew the best spots to take pics at and even showed us things that she knew growing up in Maui vs a tour guide who can tell you things from a guide book. Seriously-- she even stopped on the side to pluck fresh strawberry guavas for us to try. She knew ... morewhen to take the perfect shot while on the bus. Jessica would say get your cameras ready, we're turning & you could get a shot of this amazing waterfall with this backdrop. She was a great driver, especially on the narrow Hana road! It was a long day but it was completely worth it.

Overall:
Just got off the Hana Gold Adventure Tour and I have a few things to say that should be able to assist anyone looking for recommendations. Firstly, this tour is not a bad tour if you are looking to learn about general botany or island history. Very informative on these topics from our driver Sal. However, do not let the name fool you, there is no adventure here. Your largest stops are two highly congested ... moreareas that are easily located on Google Maps.

There is no Tranquil view at lunch, the food wasn't bad at all, but it is inside pop up tents and a marketplace that is, seemingly, pushed on you. There absolutely needs to be a disclaimer that anyone who gets motion sickness easily should not that this tour. The last couple of hours are on unpaved and destroyed gravel roads. In fact I would say once you really get out of Hana proper there isn't really much more to the tour than a few photo ops that seemed selected at the last second to avoid everyone on the bus from falling asleep (or at least trying to sans the terrible roads). Lastly, for the tour portion, there was no final scenic views. We had to be asked if anyone needed to use the restroom...after over 2 hours of not having one. So the answer was resoundingly yes.

A few minor nitpicks. First, if a guest isn't on time outside their hotel and does not answer their phone, the rest of your guests should not need to suffer the inconvenience of having to go back to get a single guest who did not have the courtesy to be ready on time. The same can be said when a guest leaves a personal item behind and then remembers it was forgotten. There should be contingencies in place for situations like these that do not affect the rest of your guests.

There also needs to be strict, I'll emphasize strict, policy of the application of bug sprays or lotions inside the tour bus. Zero tolerance to be more precise. Outside of the bus is absolutely acceptable, but to apply those items in a very tight and closed in bus, without the proper ventilation is inexcusable. When I brought this up to our driver Sal, he barely even acknowledged what I said. It is the duty of the guide to address these situations.

Again, to be clear this isn't a bad tour but it needs fine tuning. I would have preferred more time at the pools and black sand beaches as opposed to the 15 stops to talk about fruit. Adventure is a misleading title, but that is not something I would wager would ever be changed. It is too much of a buzzword. I can't recommend it in its current form, but again, it has a lot of potential or appeal to certain people. **not child friendly, do not bring children, children should not be allowed.

***Going to update this rating solely due to fantastic customer service from another tour. I appreciate it when anyone reaches out on a concern and as stated above, this wasn't a bad tour at all. Just needs a bit of fine tuning.

Took the "Road to Hana" tour and was so impressed with our tour guide Larry and his knowledge about the plants, trees, wildlife, customs, legends and best of all the navigation of the road!! After a slight glitch in the beginning with a malfunction in the door of the shuttle bus, another bus was provided and off we went. The tour was worth the wait and words cannot express the beauty beheld the whole ... moretour. Good job Larry!!!

Took the Road to Hana trip with Hank as the driver. Hank was great! Born and raised on the islands, he knows the facts, myths, traditions, and history. He talks clearly when speaking English or Hawaiian. He has the right amount of friendliness and courtesy. He spent the right amount of time at each stop. ... more

The 15 passenger van was is new condition and was very comfortable inside. Plenty of AC. Seats are comfortable, clean, and have outlets to charge your phone. Cold water and canned juice on board and plentiful. For lunch, my sandwich was perfect, but wife's wrap was a little soggy.

Tour picked us up exactly on time at our hotel. We got back a little late, only because one couple was late back from every excursion. I didn't care, though, because I'm on vacation in Hawaii!

You can drive the road. Lot's of people do. (Drive clockwise.) But it was nice to have a guided tour too.

It was a great tour, especially with Hank!

Told us stuff about him and fun facts as we drove our way along Maui! He also had a wonderful voice! Definitely the right one for a tour guide! Some of them put you to sleep but I fully enjoyed my trip!!!!!! Lee knew all these amazing ... moreplaces to stop! I was the first one to be picked up and we got talking I told him I was vegan, one of our stops I got the most gorgeous vegan salad (the salad dressing makes it vegan or not, I get this a lot since usually salad are just plants) and was so grateful we got to stop there!!! In addition to the worlds best banana bread too!! Lee, I really appreciate you taking the time to make my Maui experience yet another great one!!! Mahalo

“Ever wondered how it feels to do a mini road trip”
Overall:
Ever wondered how it feels to do a mini road trip along coastal highways, through tropical rainforests, alongside cascading waterfalls and around a volcano? Usually, you will need to do several road trips to obtain these vastly different experiences. But with Road to Hana, you get all these and more in one.... more
In all of Hawaii, no road is more celebrated than this one. They say, going to Hana is about the journey, not the destination, and I can totally vouch for that. This is possibly one of the most beautiful and interesting road trips I’ve ever taken, simply because of the vastly different sights and smells of Maui you take in on this one-day trip.

“Road to Hana Adventure Gold, including lunch (Maui)”
Overall:
Wow! This excursion exceeded our expectations in every way! This Polynesian Adventure Tour is an excellent value! Our personable driver/tour guide, Tom, provided a very well-narrated, professional tour on our nearly 12 hour thorough journey to Hana & continuing around the less traveled backside of Maui. He was very knowledgeable about Hawaiian history, geography, ecosystems, agriculture, culture & ... morecustoms.
We were picked up on time from our hotel (7:15am). Our air conditioned coach comfortably seated 25 very friendly people of all ages. We stopped at Whole Foods in Kahului for continental breakfast (also included in the price of the tour).
Once on the Hana Hwy, we especially appreciated that we could relax while someone else (Tom) was doing the driving! (On 2 previous occasions, we attempted to "survive" the road to Hana, driving ourselves while listening to the Road to Hana CD. Our self-tours did not work out very well. We never made it to the 7 pools because it was getting too dark, nor did we have time to stop along the way to actually see the sites. Rental cars are very strongly advised to stay off the rough, unpaved road connecting the Hana Hwy to Hwy 31 so we had to turn around and retrace our steps, making for a long, dark, white-knuckle drive back.)
As a photographer, I appreciated the many opportunities and ample time that Tom gave us to disembark the coach to take short hikes to thoroughly view the most prominent sites along the way. I'd recommend wearing shoes suitable for hiking and perhaps bringing a travel umbrella, as there may be showers.
We expected a picnic lunch but again our expectations were exceeded when we stopped at the posh Hana Hotel for a lovely buffet lunch.
After lunch, Tom continued our tour around the "backside" of the island which we had never seen previously. These roads are very rough - hence the restrictions for pregnant women, people with back problems or prone to motion sickness. Honestly, I was glad that I had premeditated with Bonine! We entered a dryer ecosystem where we saw magnificent 80-mile ocean views of the Big Island, expansive beef cattle ranches, Haleakala cinder cones and layers of lava flows.
About 12 hours later, at 7:15pm, we were dropped off at our hotel, satisfied to check "The Road to Hana" off our bucket list.

PS - Tom provided ice cold drinking water for us on the coach and gave us frequent restroom breaks.

“A "Must Do" while on Maui”
Overall:
A friend of mine told me not to miss a tour to "the road to Hana" while on Maui. After doing research of reviewes of Tour companies wqho offer this tour I selected Polynesian Adventure tours. Pick up from the Hotel was on tome, the bus was comfortable with great viewing out the huge windows and the driver/guide, "Ed" was excellent. He provided so much information along the way that was super helpful. ... moreThe stops were perfect. The scenery is out of this world! The lunch at thje Hana Hotel was very tasty. If you drive be prepared to spend most of your time barely sliding by a vehicle comming the other way, and you'll be stopping quite a bit waiting for a vehicle to cross one of the 52 one lane bridges. You would not be able to take your eyes off the road. It is the longest, m0ost winding road in the USA. Do yourself a favor and take this tour. You will be thankful, and glad you did!

“Trip to Hana - ... The Best!”
Overall:
Our trip to Hana was a whole semester of learning in one exciting and fulfilling day. If you are going to Lahaina or there abouts this is a great to start the trip off with an immersion into the Hawaiian history and a little bit of it's culture. As we partook of the beautiful and breathtaking sights of luscious mountain landscapes and tropical waterfalls of East Maui we were able to listen to our ... moretour leader, Lauren (Larry), a specialist in Hawaiian History and Naturalist, expand on the particulars of the land formations and the migrations of the people as well as the creatures. That is everything from the mongoose to the million year old joining of the islands from the lava that once flowed from the volcanos.

We were glad we did not have to drive the treacherous winding roads to Hana. Larry, was amazing, his navigation and story tellings kept us entertained the entire trip. My husband, kids and I were able to relax and eat, drink and be merry along with the others on our bus. The tour itself entailed shopping, icecream, beach combing and amazing sightseeing. Overall, this was great experience for our teenage sons and my husband and I. I would especially recommend this tour at the start of the trip.

“Great tour once we got started!”
Overall:
I have done the Road to Hana tour with this company in the past and my past experience was better than my most recent. The Road to Hana tour itself was great- included lunch which was very nice. However on this trip, once all of us were picked up at the hotels, we had to go to the airport to pick up people coming in on a flight from another island- which wouldn't be so bad except as usual the flight ... morewas not on time! Our whole bus full of people had to wait at the airport for 2 people coming in on the delayed flight. I paid to go on the Road to Hana - not sit at the airport! Because of our 30 min delay- our continental breakfast stop was cut so short I couldn't eat the food I picked up before having to get back on the bus and we didn't make some of the early stops that we had done on my previous trip! No Aunt Sandy's Banana Bread!
