If you are looking for a great experience while in Maui, PolyAd delivers. We did the early sunrise tour up Haleakala. Our tour guide was Nettie. She was prompt, direct, passionate, and informative. We were picked up at 2am outside our hotel. We were told it would be about 3 hours from that moment before we would be standing on Haleakala. Nettie made those 3 hours fly by.... more

She made a pit stop halfway there at a local convenience store so we could get a snack or coffee. The tour provides coffee and pastries after the sunrise. As well as a hot breakfast soon after.

While on our journey up the mountain, Nettie gave us so much information and motivation. It was very moving.

I can fill this entire page up with great things to say. My advice to anyone reading this is definitely use these guys for your tours. I can honestly say I don't have one critique or bad thing to say. Just an all round great experience.

Very easy to use. Very easy to navigate with them.

We did the Haleakala Sunrise Tour. We had to be ready at 2:30 in the morning but it was totally worth it. By the time we got to the top it was about 30 degrees cooler but it felt even colder because of the high winds. I would remember to bring a jacket, long pants, and/or a jacket. We got some really good views of the sunrise and the scenery which was spectacular.

My wife and I did the Haleakala sunrise tour on our second morning in Maui. The 2:50 AM pick-up was not an issue for us; but, for the one couple that showed up at 3:15 AM it apparently was. And, the constant prattling and complaining by the wife in that party was very distracting - we get it, you're NOT a morning person - please get over yourself.... more

Nettie was our driver; and, she proved to be a charming tour guide (also a talented photographer!) I cannot remember what size the bus was; but, I think it was the 24-passenger version. We had reclining leather seats, which were quite comfortable.

Nettie is very knowledgeable and explained what we were seeing and what we would be doing. She gave us tips for getting to the best viewing spots, which we followed precisely. We ended up right at the railing, with a few hundred people crammed behind us. I ended up taking more than 100 photos of the sunrise - it is quite spectacular.

Nettie shared her stories about the natives and gods, as only a native can; and, I highly recommend the sunrise tour; and, the Polynesian Adventure Tours in particular. The continental breakfast on the way up was nice, with coffee, tea, and danish provided on board.

Please be aware, it can be VERY cold at the summit - 30 degrees at the end of June when we were there. Bring extra layers and even ask housekeeping at your hotel for a few extra blankets to take with you; I wish we had!

On our way up, our first stop was a convenience store for restrooms and a chance to purchase snacks & drinks. We did use the restrooms and hustled back on the bus to beat the other tours and cars going up the mountain.

After the sunrise, our next stop was the visitor center for our final restroom break on our way down from the summit. We also made a stop at a lower elevated point to get some great views and shots before heading back down.

Our final stop was at the Maui Lani Golf course for breakfast, where the service was excellent and the food on par with a Denny's. Overall, it was a good idea to do the tour rather than drive ourselves up BUT it was Nettie who made the tour great and it really showed how much she enjoyed her job and cared for her environment.

The amazing Nettie was our guide/driver to the sunrise at Haleakala. 1st I would highly recommend this tour as a must if visiting Maui ! Second I heard that the only way to really experience Maui is to see its people and when you do you will have felt Hawaii. Nettie we see YOU. Thank you for leaving a life long impression on our lives and in our memories with your passion, knowledge and connection ... moreto your land.

We did the sunrise to Haleakala tour. We were the first to get picked up and the last to get dropped off. It felt like a really long day but it was nice to relax and not have to worry about driving in the wee hours of the morning. Wayne was our tour guide and he was very informative and friendly. We passed on the pastries in the morning. The hot breakfast on the golf course was not good. Overall, ... moreit was a great experience.

We did the Haleakala sunrise tour on our first morning in Maui. Since we were still on PST the 3:10am pick up time was not an issue for us. Nettie, our fearless driver, charming tour guide, and talented photographer, picked us up last after collecting all those staying on the westside. No worries, last pick up means first drop off. I was a little surprised by the size of the bus, I had envisioned ... morea 12-seater but it was full with 24 passengers.
1st Tip - Pack chewing gum, ginger, bottle water, and a light snack.
Our first stop was a convenience store for restrooms and a chance to purchase snacks & drinks. Just use the restrooms, if necessary, and hustle back on the bus to beat the other cars up the mountain. 2nd tip - going up the view will be on the left side (facing the front) and vice versa when going down.
As we headed up the mountain, we all started chewing gum to combat the altitude.
Second stop was the visitor center for our final restroom break before reaching the summit. Still trying to beat other cars to the summit so hustle back to the bus. We did get stuck behind a frightened driver, who made the stupid and inconsiderate decision to drive themselves up, and made me worry we wouldn't arrive in time for the sunrise. Luckily, we made it and had an hour to soak it all in and fill up all our memory cards. Nettie had the heater on when we got back on the bus and we got to enjoy coffee/tea/hot cocoa and pastries. We made a fourth stop at another elevated point to get some great views and shots before heading back down to the visitor center for restrooms. Final tip - if not staying on the westside request to be picked up at the convenience store from the first stop or at the Maui Lani Golf course.

Haleakala Sunrise Tour - Very Good
Overall:
My family did the Haleakala sunrise tour and it was a good time. Glad we took a tour to do this since we didn't have to worry about driving, parking, etc. The guide knew a lot of inside information that made the visit more enjoyable. It is crowded at the top to view the sunrise so having a guide's advice was helpful. It was nice for the person in our group who would have been the driver since that ... moreperson could enjoy the views which would not have been possible if driving.

Nettie, our driver for the Haleakala trip in January, 2019 was SUPER!!! This company is professional, efficient (thanks for CrisG.) and even though I planned this last minute, I was able to experience this trip the week I was in Maui. Nettie picked us up on time for the sunrise event. She gave us very clear instructions and what to expect. I had total trust in her knowledge of the roads and it is ... morebeyond words what a great driver she is and the knowledge she shared with us. She truly practices "Aloha". This trip was so memorable to me. I will cherish this experience forever!

The Hana tour I took the next day. (note: Do this after Haleakala, not before since this one is all day). Jessica, our driver is the BEST! I learned so much being in that Benz sprinter because she is truly a native of the area and knows so much. We saw some areas that the normal tourist cannot get to unless they know how to drive those hairpin turns like Jessica does. She is truly a jewel. I would do this tour again next time I'm back. I truly saw paradise being on this trip. Mahalo plenty Polyad!

Absolutely loved this tour. We did the Haleakala sunrise tour with them. They picked us up from our hotel at 2:00am and after picking up a few more folks on the way, after half an hour we stopped at rest stop. From then on, the journey up there mountain was great. I want to specifically mention the driver Wayne here -- you are awesome. The amount of knowledge and energy that man showed is brilliant. ... moreHe was very detailed and organized in his monologue as he gave us the history of each place we were driving by.
The bus was well equipped with some pastries and coffee to keep us warm. The breakfast they organized at the end of the tour was also quite nice.

Wayne was our driver and he did such an amazing job. So informative and entertaining during the whole trip for the Haleakala sunrise. The breakfast which is included is alright, but the view from the golf course is pretty nice. Would recommend this tour, but only if Wayne takes you there!!

We went on the road to Hana and the sunrise tour to Haleakala and were incredibly pleased with both treks. The buses were comfortable and the views were spectacular! Our guides were professional, helpful, and good drivers! I would Highly recommend PAT to Everyone looking to enjoy the trek rather than stress about weather, driving and having to deal with narrow and winding roads, or other potentially ... morescary and unpredictable drivers.
One thing I noticed about other companies that also made me glad we went with PAT was that I saw drivers from other companies smoking during rest stops. I don't want to be in a car that smells like smoke or be around second hand smoke. So, thank you, PAT, for not having drivers who smoke!

We did the Haleakala Sunrise Tour and Netie was our tour guide. She is the best tour guide that I have ever encountered. She provided blankets, flash lights and even act as a photographer to all her passengers and even taught us how to pose to get good pictures. She shares the history of the park and even give tips on other tours. Netie is so excellent at what she does.

It was painful to arise at 2am for a 2:30am pickup, but we're glad we did. We made two other quick stops to pick up others and then proceeded up Haleakala. The driver / tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared interesting facts on history, culture, geology, ecology, industry, and, to his credit, paused the narrative regularly.... more

It's dark, cold, and crowed at the summit. We heeded the warnings, checked forecasts, layered up, with hats, gloves, wool, and down, and were not overdressed. How others stood there in flip flops, swim trunks, and beach towels I don't know. Temp was 38f.

Sunrise was beautiful. Jockeying for position is necessary due to the crowds.

Fifteen minutes after sun-up 80% of the under-dressed were gone, giving us a better chance to see and explore the summit. We spent another hour or so.

Breakfast at the golf course was underwhelming - 2 stars.

“Great Trip - Great Company!”
Overall:
We chose this tour mainly because we didn't have a lot of time to stick around Haleakala and explore so we wanted something that would get us to the sunrise and then back in time to go to the airport.  We got exactly what we wanted and then some! The driver was great - he had lots of useful and insightful information about Haleakala and made the experience more than just a bus ride to the sunrise. ... moreThe sunrise itself was beautiful! I definitely feel like making your way to the crater for the sunrise is a worthwhile experience regardless of how you get there. The adventure tours just made it so much easier on us (than trying to make the drive ourselves at 3am).

I give the company itself a 5 star rating too - incredibly accommodating! They were able to even drop us off at the airport on our return from the crater instead of taking us all the way back to Laihana (to then immediately turn around and drive ourselves back to Kahului).

Superb customer service. Amazing experience!

“Spectacular Haleakala Sunrise!”
Overall:
We did the Haleakala Sunrise tour. At first it seemed to be a pain to be getting up at 2.00 am in the morning, so that we can get onto the bus at 2.30 am. Once you get to the top, it is a breathtaking sight! The sheer power of the sun, the changing colors of the sky and the clouds leaves you in awe! The Hawaiian chanting to welcome the sun adds to the charm. Our guide, Bob was amazing with his trivia ... moreand his jokes to keep the crowd in the bus engaged. I would recommend getting something warm like a blanket or a sweatshirt. This is a trip that is not be missed! It is surely worth getting up in the morning.

“Haleakala Sunrise Tour”
Overall:
A once in a lifetime experience Don't let the early hotel pick up ( for us 2:20am) change your mind about this tour. The fact that the bus was small and a hot breakfast on our way back to hotel was one of the reasons I booked through Polynesian. Danish and coffee was also available when we stopped for bathrooms before the climb up the volcano. Our driver Bob was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and a ... morereal people person

“Great tour! Organized, knowledgeable guide.”

The tour was excellent. Sunrise was incredible but equally as impressive was our tour guide, Glen. He was cheerful, knowledgeable and informative. The information regarding booking, pick up time, etc was all very thorough. Would definitely recommend Polynesian Adventure Tours for this experience.
