Stand-up Board & Paddle
Description:

Why lay down when you can stand up? Learn to stand up paddle, or SUP, in Kailua. This ancient water sport has made a major comeback with the help of new board technology, increasing the performance and ease of riding. Stand up paddling combines the thrill of surfing with the techniques of paddling, a match made in heaven. Kailua offers a variety of conditions, from flat water cruising to moderate chop and rolling waves. Lessons generally stick to the calmest areas to practice basic strokes and techniques and depart downwind for easy cruising.

Whether you are a veteran big wave surfer or just experienced at surfing on-line, chances are, you are getting excited about stand up paddling. This sport has everyone getting more time on the water, which means a happier, healthier you. The versatility of a stand up board covers everything from paddling in flat water to dropping into double over head waves.

Recent accomplishments include Bonga Perkins getting barrelled at Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore, a complete crossing of Lake Michigan by Joe Bidawid and Laird Hamilton Stand Up Paddling down the Grand Canyon, crossing the English Channel and paddling from Oahu to Kauai. You may want to start with more realistic goals like our simple downwind intro class. But soon you'll be up for paddling out to Flat Island or the Mokulua's and beyond.

Availability here changes constantly. We can tell you something is available and then 5 minutes later someone else books and its not available anymore. If you make a booking and your activity is not available, then you will not be charged. No hassles, no worries!
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Most companies have a set of centrally located hotels that they do pick ups from. This makes the pickup process short so you can start the tour as soon as possible!
Gratuity is never required but if you enjoyed your experience, a tip is always greatly appreciated!

Fantastic day SUPing
Overall:
We had a fantastic day with Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks. Professional and fun service, great gear! Laura did our lesson and she was fantastic. There was only 2 of us so it was like a private lesson. One of the best beaches I have ever been to as well!

A cool trip, well planned with great guides
Overall:
I had a great day paddling with Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks. They were well organised and very well led by two capable and friendly guides. Equipment was good, and a left handed paddle was found when I asked - which really made the day work for me.  We paddled to a nearby island and back. The actual paddle was fun with enough splashes, bumps and working around breaking waves to keep it fun, whilst ... morethe guides kept us safe. Spending time on the island was fun too, spotting and hearing about the local wildlife, made me appreciate the trip more.

Getting a pick-up to the site wasn't possible as I was staying away from the main hotels, but travel over there by bus wasn't too bad at all.

Absolute must when in Ohau
Overall:
My son and I both did the SUP lesson and four hour guided kayak tour with snorkelling. Firstly, location at Kailua beach is stunning, it truly is paradise. Secondly Kailua sail boards and kayaks made our holiday. The instructors are the best, their experience and local knowledge is out of this world. Cannot say enough about the whole experience, worth every cent and more. Thanks guys for a truly wonderful ... moreand unforgettable experience and see you next year.

A great outfit located within walking distance of kailua beach!
Overall:
The staff is very friendly and will do everything within their power to help you out, from check-in to check out! Laura was our guide and she's just rockin! Super funny and gave us all really good tips as we learned to Stand Up Paddle board...and we gave some tips back, and you should to! ;) Reasonably priced for being right near the beach, I would recommend going all the way out to the twin peak ... more(mokolua) islands. Definitely a great time!

We used Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks to book Stand Up Paddle Board Lessons and rent the boards. When we arrived we were outfitted straight away and introduced to our guide and trainer, Ka‘iulani Manuwai, whom we called Peaches at her recommendation instead of mangling her Hawaiian name!... more

A fifth generation Oahuan and native Polynesian, she provided excellent instruction and guided us out to a little fossilized coral island where once ashore she introduced to the flora and fauna of the island as well as telling us about the local history. She and Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks really made the outing special for us. Five stars and two thumbs up!

Kailua was a great spot for learning because the water was calm & clear. The coolest thing was seeing a bunch of turtles swimming by when I was paddling!

Excellent professional shop - great for rentals and lessons
Overall:
A friend asked me to take his wife's place on a SUP lesson and outing. Could not be more please. Our guide, Princess, is friendly, patient, informative, and fun. (She needed to be patient as this was our first attempt with SUP.) She was kind enough to take some photos for us as we stupidly forgot to bring our cameras along.... more

If you're proficient at either SUP or kayaking, you can just rent the equipment and take yourselves to the three islands and meander as you choose. Heck, you can literally swim to Popoia (flat island) - they have snorkels and fins as well. This is my customary preference, but I really want to try SUP and you just cannot get a better condition for your first attempt. The water was calm; the weather was warm; the scenery was beautiful. What more can you ask?

I should deduct half a star because we had to take our paddle boards to the beach, but there is good reason for this and it's beyond their control. These guys were just so damn friendly that I didn't have the heart to deduct anything. And seriously, if you're not willing to do a little bit of work, you don't belong out on the ocean.
