I spent two weeks trying to get a reservation
Overall:
I spent two weeks trying to get a reservation. I emailed them, and I called them repeatedly. I left messages, I called at different times of the day. Everything. Finally a week before I wanted it I drove all the way over there. A girl is just hanging out behind the front desk - I had just called. She says they just filled up for that weekend. so much for the spirit of aloha

After seeing both glowing and awful reviews for this place
Overall:
After seeing both glowing and awful reviews for this place. I have to chime in. It is a lovely spot from a nature standpoint. I stayed in a grass shack on the beach. The shack is just that, a very small room with barely space for 2 people on a wooden platform. No electricity. You will need at least a sleeping pad, pillow and light sleeping bag to be comfortable. Overpriced at $42 but there are not ... morea lot of other budget options if you don't bring a tent. The campground itself is terribly mismanaged. Many ramshackle structures - some condemned. No garbage cans unless you have bagged your garbage. The port-a-potties had no toilet paper over two days. The "hot" showers are just warm and outdoors (have to wear a swimsuit) and a fair distance away. I have been trying to reach someone for three days to get my key deposit back as I had to leave before the office opened at 10 a.m. No response. It's hard to imagine a state campground on the mainland managed this poorly, but Hawaii seems to have a different standard.

Overall:
My husband and I stayed in one of the little grass shacks for four nights and we didn't want to leave! The campground was quiet (if you don't mind the chickens) and fairly clean. If you don't mind going without the "creature comforts" like electricity and wifi, I definitely recommend a Li'l Grass Shack. We fell asleep listening to the crashing of waves, which were steps from our door. The only negatives ... moreI encountered were using the website and getting in touch with someone to make our reservation. The website is not very organized and I wouldn't bother leaving a voice or e-mail, because I left a few and got no response. I just called until I spoke to someone. Even with all this, I would still give it 5 stars, because the trouble was so worth the unforgettable experience.

The first time I stayed was great
Overall:
The first time I stayed was great ...that was 4 years ago. The two times I have gone back since were less enjoyable each time. Now I call to make a reservation and no one answers for a week at a time. I leave messages on the answering machine that they provide for alleged call backs and a week later still no returned calls . Park is great but poorly managed by Lazy people who cant answer a phone.
