Captain Cook is the small town on the Big Island named after, you guessed it, Captain Cook. Captain Cook was the ship captain who navigated to Hawaii, landed in January 1779, and was killed by the native population a month later. At first they thought he was a god, but then they realized he was merely a human being and thus his life was ended.
The town of Captain Cook holds many small shops, and a lot of culture. There is even a few places to rent kayaks. You have opportunities to go snorkeling, fishing, sailing, and scuba diving. You also have many places where you can go sightseeing - the town has a lot to offer visitors!
If you're lucky enough to visit Captain Cook in March, you can take in the yearly Kona Stampede Rodeo. Watch local cowboys in the act of roping, riding, and many other rodeo events. While the town is small, with a population of only 3,429 people, it has a large variety of entertaining attractions. Don't miss out on visiting this wonderful, cultural, interesting location!
