Description:
DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING – NON-CERTIFIED DIVERS (NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED)

Noon Charter: (Shallow Reef Dives, DSD Dives, Certification Dives)

Not a certified scuba diver? No problem! You do not need to be certified to try scuba diving in Oahu!

We offer daily PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) experiences on Oahu for those people who are not certified divers.

All that’s required is for you be in good physical condition (please see the medical questionnaire), have the desire to try scuba diving, and be at least 10 years of age . Our price for a DSD experience is $145 plus tax. This includes a 15-20 min class (diving safety, what to expect, introduction to equipment and a demonstration of a few basic skills followed by a 10 question quiz), Dive Instructor, 2 ocean dives (generally 30-45 min each), all equipment needed, and; once you complete the DSD experience, we will register your class with PADI.

Get away from the crowded touristy experience and enjoy a relaxing enjoyable Oahu diving experience! Make your Hawaiian vacation complete and try scuba diving in Oahu. We pick up guests at their Waikiki area hotel between 11:00 – 11:15AM and arrive at our shop at 11:30 am (if you are meeting us at the shop, meet time is 11:30AM at this location). From there we fill out the necessary paperwork, gear up and get onto the boat. We launch about 12:00 PM and head out to our first dive site (normally a shallow reef dive with Hawaii’s green sea turtles). After the first dive, we change out the tanks while you enjoy complementary snacks and water. During our surface interval, we motor to our second dive site; a second shallow reef dive. Once we complete our second dive, we head back to the marina and offload; while we unload you have time to visit our shop to pick up a t-shirt, hoodie, hat or more, fill in and stamp your log book or grab a shave ice near-by. We are back in the shuttle at 3:30 and dropping you off at your Waikiki hotel around 4:00 PM.

Please note that drop off times depend a lot on how long we spent diving and even more on Oahu’s traffic.

We start off by having you fill out a medical questionnaire. Please note that if you answer “yes” to any of the questions on the medical form, we require a doctor’s clearance before we can take you underwater. If you do not have time before your trip, there are low cost options available in Waikiki such as Doctor’s On Call. If the answer to each question is “no”, a doctor’s clearance is not be required.

You can expect to see turtles, eels, fish, and the occasional octopus during your dives. Other possibilities include rays, monk seals, reef sharks, and dolphins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, complimentary round trip hotel transportation from Waikiki area hotels.
Yes! We own and operate our own 28′ dive boat; the Hapa. She is rated for 12 plus crew however, we limit our charters to six divers or less to insure a better experience for our guests.
We have a 48 hour cancellation policy for all dive charters and a 72 hour cancellation policy for all certification courses and private charters. No refunds will be given for failing to show up or cancelling within the 48 hour or 72 cancellation period nor will refunds be given for dives you cannot complete. HOWEVER, if we cancelmall or part of a charter (such as weather and sea related issues), you can reschedule your charter or we will refund all or part of your fare, as appropriate.
All of our dives are guided by an experienced, licensed and insured PADI professional Instructor or Divemaster.
Yes, we provide all the scuba equipment you will need. We also offer $10 off our dive prices if you need ONLY tanks and weights.
Times can vary quite a bit depending on depth and air consumption rates. You will always start with a full tank (filled to 3000 psi). Dives end when we reach our maximum allowable bottom time, or begin to run low on air (700-1000 psi). We do not set specific dive times unless we are required to because of depth restrictions.
We use Cressi BCDs and Atomic Regulators. We also partner with Oceanic and Sea Sports. If you are interested in purchasing dive gear we can either have it shipped directly to your home address (save on airline baggage fees!) or you can pick it up in our shop.
Yes, we do offer professional underwater photography services. For professionally edited digital photos with all the pictures of your dives and a print release, we charge $85. Your photos will be made available in a secure on-line folder where you can download or share with friends and family. Divers can of course bring their own cameras and take as many photos/videos as they like.
Yes, we do provide a complimentary light snack (pastry, pineapple, cookies, etc) and water on all our daily Oahu scuba diving trips.
We operate 7 days a week and most holidays – we are also closed on the day of the Honolulu Marathon since the highway is shut down and make sit extremely difficult to access the Hawaii Kai area.
We only take a maximum of six divers per dive trip, so there is never a crowd.
There are several steps you can take to avoid sea sickness. Products such as Dramamine and Bonine are designed to relieve motion sickness, however they also have side effects such as drowsiness. To avoid this, take one pill the night before you plan to dive, and another upon waking. Taking these products right before you get on the boat or when you start to feel sick will not help. Another alternative is Sea Bands. These are wrist bands that were designed to combat motion sickness by means of pressure points on your wrists. They have no side effects, and work for many people. You can find these products at most island drug stores. It is also a good idea to get plenty of rest and limit alcohol consumption and greasy foods prior to diving.
Terms & Conditions
  • We have a standard 48 hour cancellation policy for all dive charters and certification courses, and a 72 hour cancellation policy in effect for all private charters. Refunds will not be given if you fail to show for your scheduled dives or cancel your reservation with less than 48/72 hours notice.

Overall:
Had an amazing experience with this dive crew. Johnny was our dive instructor and he was very informative and helpful. It was a very short 10 minute boat ride out to the dive site and the visibility and sea life was great. We first went to the spitting cave with lots of large coral reefs, eels, colorful fish, and one turtle. Very cool caves also. ... more

The second stop was Koko Crater where the bottom was much flatter and more sand but so many turtles. We saw about 15-20 turtles and even a baby turtle. There were a couple statues also.

Overall the team was very helpful and made sure everyone was comfortable and ready to have fun. I would definitely recommend this trip.

비자격자과정했는데~처음 하기에 좋은 곳이에요
Overall:

First dives with my Son
Overall:
My sons 1st certified dives, we went out with Bud and the gang and they could not have been better. They were patient with my son even when he brought bananas on the boat and ate up all the snacks. We went out 3 different days with a mix of new and experienced divers and everyone had a blast. New or experienced you can't go wrong with Reef Pirates!!

Relaxed diving, awesome crew!
Overall:
Had a great time diving with these guys. I had booked them because they only take small groups of 6 people max on trips. This was true and i was so glad I had booked them! At some of the dive sites we saw other larger groups with crazy instructors who were constantly trying to keep the group together. I was so glad we had a small group with a very easy going instructor who actually looked at our diving ... moreskills and was comfortable just letting us have a good time! Highly recommend them!

Great diving experience!
Overall:
It was by chance we could get a trip with two dives at the Reef Pirates. That's not a foregone conclusion, since Bud Brasier and his crew only two exits per day (one in the morning, the other in the afternoon) and this company take a maximum of only six divers. The day before we were given by the organizer a reminder e-mail that they would pick us up at the specified date at the hotel. This service ... morewas free and to the minute on time then the boss personally appeared and drove us to his van to the base. The first dive (37 mins.) At Anglers Reef Unfortunately we only saw a green moray as a special feature. During the surface interval rice cakes, bars and water were offered before we went back down for another 47 min. At Koko Crater. Here we saw numerous turtles, which were very relaxed in dealing with divers thanks to the protection of species and we were able to make some nice pictures of them. Following this very nice experience, we were again driven by the boss back to the hotel, where he still gave us one or the other useful tip over land and people along the way. Bud and his crew are very nice, relaxed contemporaries and I would want to go the next time you visit Hawaii definitely be back diving with you.

It was so rewarding to have a company do what they said they would do and be accommodating when unforeseen medical issues (not on the dive) dictated a change in plans. Everyone was so helpful and when I was able to dive it was just what they said it would be. Until Next Time

Small groups a big plus on small boats. Also makes the dive more fun. Reef Pirates are good, patient people who know what they are doing. Call around, but you won't find a better outfit on Oahu. Thanks Reef Pirates!

So I've gone 4 separate years with this crew and have never been disappointed. I'm an inexperienced diver as is but also brought my two sons diving who are extremely green - the minimum age for PADI divers. The crew took such good care of them and made them enjoy the dive to such a degree - it was awesome! I go now every year with them as I trust them, they are safety conscious but also make it fun. ... morea great crew!

Excellent dive company! Thanks to Sean, Captain Dan, Nick, and special appreciation to Orvil for the great photos! Love the small group limit and the interactive diving--very personalized, hands-on learning about endemic species, and a friendlly, helpful and competent approach. We went diving with Reef Pirates two years ago, we thoroughly enjoyed two days of diving this week, and we'll be back!
