Wawamalu Beach

  • Fishing
  • Exploring tide pools and the marine life
Wawamalu Beach on Oahu south shores  is located between Sandy Beach and Makaha Head. Unlike Sandy Beach, Wawamalu beach does not have a lot of sand. Most of the beach is rocky. Entering the water is also quite difficult since the ocean bottom near shore is rocky. Any part of the beach where there is sand also contains bits of rocks.

The Beach does not receive many visitors, mostly because of its rocky shore. There aren't any trees.  The beach provides very nice spots for fishing.  Occasionally, you may be able to see monk seals on the beach.  There are no facilities, but the beach can be very nice for having a picnic. There is also lots of parking space since the beach is often empty. The grassy area can also be used for playing different games such a football or just for relaxing.

Exploring the beach can be a fantastic adventure. The lava rocks often create tide pools where some marine life can be seen trapped inside after the tide has retreated. Near the beach is also an area known as Kaloko Inlet, which is a body of water that runs from the golf course across the Highway. Often, at the specific area, you may be able to spot turtles grazing seaweed. Since the beach is not very visited, there are hardly any facilities. There is no parking or even lifeguards. Spending time at Wawamalu beach, you can enjoy a very nice grassy area perfect for having a picnic, relaxing, or just admiring the sunset. The setting also offers some great picture  opportunities.
