Mokule'ia Beach Park is a beautiful white sand beach found on Oahu North shore west of Wailua. Mokule'ia is well known and a very popular destination among windsurfers. The nice sand and shallow reef also attract people seeking other water activities. The beach is almost never too busy because it is quite a distance away from the nearest town of Haleiwa, even on weekends, when most of the north shore beaches in the surrounding are crowded, Molule'ia Beach Park still remains empty.
Swimming can be difficult on this beach because of the shallow reef, but it is perfect for snorkeling and spear fishing. During the winter months when the Kona winds (south wind) are blowing, it provides very good conditions for kite and wind surfing that puts on a spectacular show worth watching. During the winter there are also strong swells and dangerous rip currents that can sweep a person out to sea, so it is often advised to stay out of the water if you are inexperienced and watch the ocean conditions closely. The soft white sand on the beach also makes is great for laying down and sunbathing. If you want some shade, beautiful trees line up all along the background of the beach.
Mokule'ia was also the location where half of the first season filming for the TV series Lost took place. Pets are allowed on the beach so you can bring your four legged friend along. There are no lifeguards, but the beach has restroom facilities and fresh water. Picnic tables can be found and a large parking area. The beach also has a campsite where you can rent a cabin. The name Mokule'ia means "district of abundance" in Hawaiian
