Description:
Kalama Beach Park covers 36 acres, the beach itself is quite small but the park is huge and provides very nice locations for picnic, family gatherings, jogging, cycling and just enjoying the outdoors. The Park also has tennis and basketball courts, 20,000 foot of a skateboard park,  various sports fields, and an inline skating rink.

Kalama Beach Park is part of Kailua Beach covering a section 2.5 miles long. It is located on the windward coast of Oahu along the Hana Highway just a few miles from Hana town. The beach is covered with beautiful white sands and has crystal clear turquoise waters. Near the shore, the ocean floor is rocky and shallow. Swimming is possible, although the conditions for swimming are not that great. The water near the shore is also often murky because of seaweed, nice water activities include snorkeling, diving and surfing. The beach is most popular for kite, windsurfing and body boarding. The water is often calm, and swimming can be undertaken even by small children.

The park that extends from the beach along the coastline offers a scenic environment with some areas, grassy great for the outdoors other areas combine very beautiful tropical flora, rock arches and other unique coastal formations. On the left and right of Kalama Beach can be found very big and luxurious properties. Kalama Beach Park has all the amenities for spending quality time at the park and the beach, there are almost no lifeguards.

Festivals, concerts, family gatherings and lots of picnics are held at the park. The park includes twelve pavilions, rest rooms, picnic tables, showers, to sum up generally Kalama Beach Park is best suited for land based activities.

Gorgeous beach with little crowds
Overall:
Gorgeous beach with little crowds. Spent the day here today with only 25 people on the huge expanse of pristine beach. The surf is swimming friendly, and hugely fun to body surf the day away. There are also some nice shade trees if you want to hide from the sun.

Only public beach access I was able to find on the northern side of Kailua
Overall:
Only public beach access I was able to find on the northern side of Kailua. Very nice park, well maintained. Bathroom facilities provided and an open/outdoor shower to rinse off the sand and salt.
