Description:

When people come across the word ‘beach’, it is a place with sand to relax on, water to bathe and sun to soak into come into mind. Adding to the scenic beauty of Hawaii, the fresh water of Kilauea River and a wonderful camping weather, one would get an apt description of the Kahili Quarry Beach. True to its name, the Kahili Quarry Beach lies in close proximity to a rock quarry, which is not working these days, but still it is fun to explore around. It’s not surprising that this beach is fondly referred as the Quarry Beach or the Rock Quarry Beach.

Along with the option of swimming in the large pool, where the Kilauea River flows into the Pacific Ocean, the beach offers opportunities for surfing as well as snorkelling. The area also showcases an opportunity for adventure lovers to explore the densely vegetated hill bordering the beach. Fishing and a kayak trip up the Kilauea Stream also add to the gamut of activities available in his tourist spot, thus serving varied interests at the same place.

Word of caution! Swimming is best on the western (left) side of the beach where the ocean is calm; and murky waters and rip tides at the mouth of the Kilauea River are, at best, avoided.
