Whale Watch Adventure

Humpback whales travel to the Hawaiian waters every winter not just because Hawaii is the number one vacation destination in the world, but to give birth and mate before heading back to Alaska to eat. We take you to the action wherever it is happening. Guests experience the thrill of encountering these 80,000 pound animals in a close and safe way. From baby whales curiously scouting out the boat to witnessing a triple breach, we have seen it all. Leaving out of Puako, we right away enter the nursing grounds of mother humpback whales and their babies. Go out a little further and you may witness a competition pod, a battle between males over the female.

The captains and crew are very knowledgeable about the behavior of these animals behavior and will share insightful facts throughout the entire trip. You definitely don't want to miss out on a once in a lifetime whale watching experience. Don't delay.

Click on the red "Book It" button and you will see live availability. Keep in mind availability changes constantly, so make sure to book in advance!
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
Most companies, if not all, require you to call them if you're trying to book something 2-3 days in advance. Do you really want to be spending your valuable time in Hawaii calling around to desperately find something that is available to do? While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Gratuity is never required but if you enjoyed your experience, a tip is always greatly appreciated!

My family of four (two girls 8 & 10) took the 8am whale watch tour on 3/10/18 and had an incredible trip. We were greeted with banana nut bread and other delicious snacks kept appearing throughout the trip which was really nice. It was really windy and the whales were already starting to leave but Capt. Casey did an excellent job of driving to keep everyone dry and soon had us on a calf and Mom with ... morean escort. We drifted and maneuvered as required for optimal viewing and even got lucky enough to have a group swim right up almost underneath us! We also were able to witness a couple of breaches! Throughout the trip Capt. Casey and the crew provide interesting education and knowledge about these amazing animals. After a trip with another outfit on a bigger boat for a snorkel expedition where we got drenched as we beat through the waves/spray on the way back I am so thankful I booked this on the Adventure X whose smaller/lighter boat did not have that issue.

Captain Casey, Kelsey, and Alexis were so friendly! We took the snorkel and whale watch tour. While the waters were really rough that day and snorkeling didn't have great visibility (but I DID have a beautiful sea turtle and tropical fish swim within feet of me), I came for the whale watch. And MAN it didn't disappoint! Breaching whales 6-10 times??! It was amazing! I even got lucky enough to catch ... moreone of the half breaches on video (I'll attach it on their Facebook page since it cuts off the video where the breach occurs here on yelp). They served healthy food, too. It was delicious and it came from Under the Bodhi Tree...as a vegan I was SHOCKED I could eat the food they provided. I'm always relegated to water and that's it. Ha!! My meat-eating friends were happy with the selection, too, so you don't have to be vegan to enjoy their provided snacks!

They also played beautiful Hawaiian music on the way out that I Shazamed on the boat and now I'm a huge fan of the music. The best "music" however were the whale songs when they put the microphone in the water...it was moving to hear their beautiful communication with one another! I will definitely be back next time we're in Hawaii.

This is the 9th or 10th time I've been out with Adventure X for whale watching and once on the dolphin tour. It is by far the best on the island! Once there was only one whalebut the trip was fabulous anyway. (One cannot control the whales!) The staff is tops and whether it's Captain Casey or Captain Kelsey they are always very informative about the whalesbehaviors and were always treated to sonar ... moresound of the whale song if they are close and deep under us, and they normally are.

The pupus are always freshly made and delicious.

Thank you Adventure X for another fabulous time!

After doing some research, we booked our whale watching tour online. It was a smooth and easy process which resulted in an email confirmation with directions to the launch from where we booked. With 15 before launch, we got a call in the car checking on us to see if we were close. We arrived in time to make the 11am departure. There was much rejoicing. ... more

We had an all female crew (Kelsey, Kelsey, and Lindsey (we think)), all of whom were active and attentive. Our captain knew what she was doing, and shared knowledge, insights, and personal experiences with the group.

It couldn't have been more than 10 minutes into the trip before we saw our first whales.

At first I was a skeptical of the size and type of boat that we would be on. We hadn't really given any thought to 'the people who arrive first get to sit at the front of the boat' custom, so showing up dead last meant we sat in the back of the boat. Fortunately, there were only about 14 on our cruise, so my wife and I basically had both of the back bench seats to ourselves. In my opinion, they were the best seats on the boat! What I had not anticipated, was that the twin outboard mercury engine zodiac would be so agile. No sooner had a crewman or passenger called "whale, 3 o'clock", Kelsey was already positioning the craft in that direction. There were several other boats out in the waters that day, mostly larger catamarans where passengers had to move about the deck of the boat to see the whales. That, and a lack of observable seating for the 30 or so people we saw gave us a comforting satisfaction that we paid a bit more for a higher quality experience.

I highly recommend this tour. Both the boat and the crew were fabulous. They shared their knowledge of both the islands and whales as we waited for them to appear. And then they did! Two whales swam right under the boat and another breached a couple hundred feet away. Great experience. Oh and the snorkeling was good too, but the main attraction is definitely the whales.

If you're having second thoughts doing this activity, stop yourself and just reserve your spot! It was breathtaking! We had been wanting to see whales for such a long time. Definitely would do this again. Thank you so much Michael & Kelsi!
