- Haleakala National Park
The Oheo Gulch, better known as seven sacred pools, is the
important part of the Haleakala National Park. This Gulch is located at the 42 mile Highway marker at the Hana- Maui
Highway, ... moreand hence it takes about 15 minutes of drive from the town of Hana to
the Oheo Gulch, this was basically situated at the coastal area of Kipahulu. People know Oheo Gulch in many names, some reckon to it as
the Kipahulu area, while some call it the Oheo pools. But, these are not just
any pools rather they are referred as the seven sacred pools, and hence this
makes it a scared part of the Kipahulu area. These pools are fed by the Palikea
and the Pipwai streams.
The scared pools originated in the 1940’s when there were
many pools that used to flow around the Oheo Gulch and finally merge into the
nearby ocean. The Gulch then became one of the prime spots in Maui and the
visitor comment on their visit as “worth a try”.
The parking lot for the Oheo Gulch is present at the lateral
end of the Oheo Bridge, and the same part of the parking is valid for the Haleakala
National park.
