Highlights:
  • 1 hour helicopter ride!
  • View this amazing waterfall which is not accessible by land!
  • The most popular helicopter tour
Description:
This tour is our finest offering and is far and away our most popular tour. This grand adventure includes everything in our other tours but continues on past Sacred Falls, over the Polynesian Cultural Center, one of Hawaii’s most popular visitor attractions, and the Mormon Temple in Laie. You'll also see Turtle Bay, the aquaculture farms and Kahuku Point. Don't be surprised if you see humpback whales offshore here during the winter months.

The tour continues along the storied North Shore, with a dramatic view of world-renowned surfing spots including Sunset Beach, Pipeline and Waimea Bay. On your way over Oahu’s Central Plain, you'll see the Dole Pineapple maze and the “birthing stones” of Hawaiian royalty. Then, the aircraft will head south through the Kolekole Pass, where Japanese warplanes flew on their date with destiny back in 1941. You'll see the Ihilani and Ko Olina Resorts, and then fly over the deep draft harbor at Barber’s Point. Your tour concludes with a panoramic vista of Pearl Harbor.

Frequently Asked Questions
Availability here changes constantly. We can tell you something is available and then 5 minutes later someone else books and its not available anymore. If you make a booking and your activity is not available, then you will not be charged. No hassles, no worries!
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Most companies have a set of centrally located hotels that they do pick ups from. This makes the pickup process short so you can start the tour as soon as possible!
Gratuity is never required but if you enjoyed your experience, a tip is always greatly appreciated!

"You're from Aiea? We hardly ever get locals here" I can understand why. The high price tag delayed us from booking a tour. Hell, it almost kept us from booking it completely! However, I highly recommend this tour to locals. The experience will be completely different for you than it is for tourists, but it is a one of a kind experience that will hold a special place in your memory for a long time.... more

Located off of lagoon dr, Makani Kai is very easy to locate if you don't take transportation from Waikiki. They check you in as you arrive and show you the safety video right away. It seems as if that wouldn't be very efficient since they showed the video 3 times for the 3 parties on our helicopter, but we didn't even notice it was playing while we were watching TV on the other side of the room.

A note: don't lie about your weight here. 5 pounds off? no problem, but please remember that there is a computer program that balances the plane based on your reported weight. If you grossly lie about it, the helo won't be balanced, which is UNSAFE.... so seriously... don't lie.

We were very lucky to get the front row seats based on the computer program. We could see EVERYTHING! So this is why it's great for locals. As our pilot was pointing everything out, we noticed how difficult it would be to spot some of these buildings if we didn't know exactly what they looked like. For example, would you know what the kamehameha schools looked like from above if you've never even heard of them before? no, probably not. We enjoyed it so much more with the knowledge of the island and felt like we saw so much more.

We hovered close to the top of the ridges I could never dream of climbing. We saw the top of sacred falls, a portion of the island I never expected to see. We followed the same aerial shot seen at the beginning of the reveal of jurassic park. I will never forget these moments.

The employees are very nice, very safe, and very honest. They offered us our video, but then continued to say they wouldn't personally buy it since the quality is poor. Instead, take this free canned video of what you saw on a much better quality camera... SCORE.

Put this on the list of must see's when your friends come to visit.

I'm officially a helicopter trip convert. The first one I ever took was last year in Kauai. Why would I do another one a year later in the same state? I already told you, because I'm officially a helicopter trip convert-and there's nothing like seeing the place you're staying from the air to really give you a full picture of what there is to do and see.... more

Tip: If you're thinking of doing a helicopter ride, do it at the start of your trip. You'll come out with a much better idea of how to plan your stay!

I took the Sacred Falls one hour tour with Makani Kai. Our pilot, Brodi, flew us over the island, pointing out different highlights with stories, history and trivia. What stood out for me from this tour was:

- flying over Diamond Head. We had done the small hike up to the top of Diamond Head that morning. I had no idea it was an entire crater until I saw it from the sky!
- viewing Sacred Falls. Ever since an incident in the 90s, this waterfall can only be seen from the air. But it's there 365 days of the year! And it's so pretty!
- seeing the valley where Brodi's grandmother lived.
- Pearl Harbour. We didn't fly directly over the monument out of respect for those who died and those paying their respects, but the information Brodi provided about the history and events of Pearl Harbour added another layer to the experience. Knowing where the planes came over the harbour, seeing today what the pilots there saw over 60 years ago... it makes it more real.

After my flight, I was able to connect with Diane, one of the family owners of Makani Kai. There's a buggy in the middle of the Makani Kai office. She was explaining to me that it was one of the first (if not the first... ) buggies on the island that belonged to her husband's grandfather's company... Schuman Carriage founded in 1893. I love that this family business has ties that go so far back into Hawaii's history!

From the office staff to the ground crew to the pilot, I very much enjoyed my experience with Makani Kai Helicopters. Five fabulous stars on a job well done!
