Description:
What Makes Us Unique?

You are invited to join us for some of the best Big Island SCUBA Diving in Hawaii found here, on the Kohala Coast! We at Mauna Lani Sea Adventures offer SCUBA Diving for all levels of experience including beginner programs and certification courses, as well as daily boat and shore dives. We have been operating since 1983, and have over a dozen dive sites within minutes of our own private dock.

These sites offer spectacular underwater topography due to the volcanic history of the Big Island. Come and see the amazing lava tubes, caves and archways. Discover the many varieties of hard coral found here. There is finger coral, cauliflower and brain coral, to name just a few. Averaging a depth of 35-55 feet, the Kohala Coast provides an opportunity for all levels of divers to join us. Deeper dives are available upon request for the experienced diver.

These coral reefs not only provide beautiful underwater scenery, but are also home to a variety of colorful and unique sea life. The Kohala Coast of the Big Island is home to over 600 species of tropical fish, with many of these species found no where else in the world! Come enjoy our healthy reef and experience first hand the intelligent octopus, the spectacular eels, the graceful Manta and Spotted Eagle Rays and the sleepy Reef Sharks. Swim with the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle and watch him hover over a “turtle cleaning station” while reef fish clean his shell!

We invite you to join us for Hawaii’s best diving! Conveniently located and reasonably priced, our professional staff provides excellent service to meet your individual needs. We offer discounts to those that bring their own gear, provide experienced instructors to guide each dive, and we keep our groups small by taking a maximum of 6 divers. And don’t forget the short boat rides! We’re close enough to bring you ashore for your surface interval, and you’ll still have most of the day ahead of you after your two morning dives.

Frequently Asked Questions
Click on the red "Book It" button and you will see live availability. Keep in mind availability changes constantly, so make sure to book in advance!
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
Most companies, if not all, require you to call them if you're trying to book something 2-3 days in advance. Do you really want to be spending your valuable time in Hawaii calling around to desperately find something that is available to do? While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Gratuity is never required but if you enjoyed your experience, a tip is always greatly appreciated!

Overall:
My husband's family has been diving with the crew at Mauna Lani Sea Adventures for many years (I want to say 20?), and introduced me several years ago. We just returned from another trip to Kona, and I realized I had never given them the review they deserved!  I learned everything I know about Scuba from the team here. The certification course was great, every single person teaching you is knowledgable ... moreand kind. I am the kind of person who feels a lot of anxiety if I don't know what I am doing, but I felt very prepared by their instruction when we began our dives, and was able to relax and have fun right away. (This was several years ago)

Since then, my husband and I have gone diving together in other places, so I have a better basis for comparison. The team is still the best we've encountered, and we've had some great international experiences. The reef itself is awesome, if you have correct expectations for what you're going to see. Hawai'i isn't carpeted in delicate soft corals like some reefs (the Great Barrier, Indonesia, etc), so don't expect to snorkel or dive here and see a rainbow! These reefs are hard corals, which are less colorful but very interesting in their own right. What makes these dive sites unique is mainly the lava tubes, open caves, and interesting large coral formations. There are still big schools of colorful fish, but not as many as the aforementioned soft coral reefs will have. BUT there are tons of sea turtles, octopus, eels (garden and moray) reef sharks (not dangerous), and sometimes there are manta rays!

Saving the best for last, if you are there while the humpback whales are in town, you may hear them singing while you dive. This was magical for me, and difficult to describe. We also saw quite the show of whales breaching and tail-diving while we were on the boat between dives. The best whale-watching I've ever done, and it was accidental!

We love you, Mauna Lani Sea Adventures! Mahalo!

The Diving is Solid but the Staff are Amazing!
Overall:
Just finished 10 dives over the past five (5) with these guys. I have dived all over the world - great experiences - but without a doubt, this is my favorite outfit to dive with. We have come back time and time again over the past 15 years and will continue to do so. The are organized, professional with just the right amount of "Hang Loose". They get the details right and are excellent readers of ... moretheir client's interests and abilities. The diving is always varied and interesting but the feeling that you are "diving with friends" makes the experience.

Overall:
I have been diving with Mauna Lani Sea Adventures over the past few years including 10 dives over the past month. The dives are well organized and professional. The six diver boat is docked very close to exceptional dive sites so the time spent in the boat is minimal. The past few weeks have been dives with my family members including my newly certified grand daughter who is 11. I felt very confident ... morewith her diving with the very experienced and knowledgeable dive leaders. Gary, Spike and Steve are always exceptional to dive with and enthusiastically share the wonders of the Kohala coast. An incredible family diving value.
