Manoa Falls

Highlights:
  • 150-200 Feet Water Falls
  • Easy but Spectacular Hiking Trail
  • Inviting Pool
Description:

Manoa Falls is a spectacular site as it tumbes down a near vertical cliff for approximately 150-feet into a small pool. The hike to the falls is classified as "easy" and travels through a bamboo forest, rainforest, and base of the Ko'oaus Mountains. The trail is approximately a 1 mile hike, but DO NOT swim or drink the water. The small pool at the bottom of the falls is filled with boulders and the bottom of the pool can not be visualized making it unsafe for swimming or diving. Swimming violators may be cited.

Safety Tips for Hiking:

Inform a friend of your route and your expected time of return. Never hike alone or go beyond your capability. Always bring water, basic first aid kit and rain gear, just in case. Do not drink stream water which contains biological impurities. STAY ON THE TRAIL.

Directions:

From Waikiki: Take McCully Street out of Waikiki toward the mountains. Turn right onto Kapiolani Blvd. Turn left onto University and drive through the University of Hawaii campus. Turn right onto Manoa Road. This will dead end at the trail head.

Cool free thing to do
Overall:
Cool free thing to do. Go early in the morning or just after a rain fall and the falls will be a little bigger, It says don't go in but everyone does anyway.

Absolutely loved this hike up
Overall:
Absolutely loved this hike up. Be prepared for some muddy shoes or sandals. The trail up is fairly mild but a little slick. I ran on way down. Very beautiful scenery and lush topography. Take a camera!

Overall:
We found Manoa Falls trail in the guide and decided to go for some hiking. The trail is muddy and humid as it is rain forest but the trail isn't that difficult. At the end of the trail you will be awarded with Manoa Falls. This trail is the place where they filmed some episodes of Lost and parts of Jurassic Park movie. Make sure you are going there wearing shoes and with some water in you backpack

The trail was muddy and slippery in some parts, but had great scenery leading up to the final waterfall at the end, at which point you must turn around and head back the way you came

Mostly a quite easy and (too) short hike through an amazing rainforest scenery
Overall:
Mostly a quite easy and (too) short hike through an amazing rainforest scenery. We saw some guys wearing sandals, but it makes sense to wear shoes, as the trail is partly muddy and slippery. Parking at the official spot costs 5 buck. If you don't want to pay, you have to park elsewhere and walk to the entrance. Take your time for the hike and enjoy the surroundings. You won't regret it!

Overall:
Most beautiful forest I've ever seen after visiting many of the mountain ranges in the continental US. Really nice and easy hike, beautiful and changing scenery the whole way up. Saw some clowns in flip flops, wear proper shoes, don't need hiking gear or anything special, it's a short trail that has a little slippery mud towards the top in a few spots but for the most part is very easy.

They did a lot of maintenance on this trail since the POTUS came with his family
Overall:
They did a lot of maintenance on this trail since the POTUS came with his family. Parking is easy and you can find a place with no troubles. The trail starts out simple with a road leading up to the trail. There are plenty of spots along the way for some good photos so take your time going up (the falls will still be there...no worries) If you happen to go right after it rains, prepare yourself to ... moreslip and slide along the way and get your shoes muddy. The water fall will be better from the rain running down off the mountain, so that's a plus. The only negative about this water fall is that there is no swimming at the end. Bummer!! There are signs everywhere about falling rocks and land slides so be sure if you take some snapshots at the falls that you stand in front of these signs so they don't ruin your pictures. You may want to bring a can of OFF as well for bugs can be a pest at certain times. Other than that, it's a great easy hike to take your family on and enjoy some outdoors. Don't bother bringing too much water with you. A bottle will do just fine!

Overall:
Even if there was no waterfall at the end of this hike, it would still be worth doing just to enjoy the landscape. You walk through different types of jungle, including a bamboo grove. There are a lot of photo opportunities along the way. If there has been a rain anytime in the last week, be prepared for muddy conditions!

I did various hikes while I was on Oahu, and I would have to say that
Overall:
I did various hikes while I was on Oahu, and I would have to say that the hike to Manoa Falls was the best. The trail had very few tourists and was set in the beautiful Manoa Valley. The hike to the falls meandered through various types of plants and was not too strenuous. The falls itself was breathtaking. It helped that it was raining while I hiked, so tons of water cascaded down the cliff. All ... morethis combined with its close proximity to Honolulu makes it a hike that shouldn't be missed.

Overall:
Manoa Falls is somewhat maintained--there are large sections of the train that are muddy and could be fixed with a large amount of gravel. That said, it's a short hike to the falls and the falls are quite beautiful. Beware, however: the falls themselves are roped off so one cannot access the falls directly nor the pool at the bottom. Plan to only take pictures from a safe distance.
