Guided Haleakala Bike Tour

Island:
MAUI
Description:

The Easy Riders Biking Adventure begins when you meet us near the town of Paia on the North Shore of Maui. There are restrooms where you park and the nearby town of Paia has every modern convenience Maui has to offer. We will meet you right on the beach and then we begin our ascent up the mountain.

From Paia we will drive directly up the route we will be coming down on the bicycles. This provides us with an opportunity to show you the roadways and points of interest on the ride that you will be biking down.

Once arriving in the upcountry area of Kula we will be stopping at a small market so you will have the opportunity to use the bathroom, eat, take pictures, buy souvenirs, smell the flowers, etc.

After we spend a short time at our pit stop in Kula we will continue another few minutes in the van to the starting point. Altogether you will spend less than one hour of your precious vacation time in our van.

We provide all of the necessary clothing for this ride. If you have your own rain gear or jacket, you are more than welcome to bring it along, although layers are usually not necessary.

We will begin our bike ride outside of Haleakala National Park at 6600 feet above Sea Level. We start just above where the other bike tours get started. We ride the most miles in the business (25 miles). Be aware that other bike tour companies do advertise that they go 28 or even 38 miles, we assure you that those advertisements are misleading and false, 25 miles is as far as the Haleakala Bike Tour can possibly go.

Altogether we only do about 200 yards of uphill pedaling on our entire bike route. It is a very thrilling, and at the same time, relaxing and enjoyable bike ride.

In Makawao (about 3/4 of the way into the ride) we will be taking a short break so you will have a chance to explore the town. Maui Easy Riders is the only Tour Company on Maui that offers a tour of this very special town. Makawao is far from the beaten path of the large crowds of West and South Maui. Makawao is Maui’s Cowboy Town, a close 2nd to Paia when it comes to being the coolest little town on Maui. There is rich history in Makawao from its days as a True Cattle Ranch Town.

From Makawao we ride all the way down Baldwin Avenue into the town of Paia ending your ultimate downhill bike ride exactly where you parked your car…at the beach!

See you in Paia!

Frequently Asked Questions
Click on the red "Book It" button and you will see live availability. Keep in mind availability changes constantly, so make sure to book in advance!
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
Most companies, if not all, require you to call them if you're trying to book something 2-3 days in advance. Do you really want to be spending your valuable time in Hawaii calling around to desperately find something that is available to do? While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Gratuity is never required but if you enjoyed your experience, a tip is always greatly appreciated!

Great trip down the mountain!
Overall:
We rode down Haleakala with Billy and Kyle this morning. This trip has its challenges, that's for sure, but overall, really enjoyable. The best feature of the trip is the way the operation is run. We had just four people on our trip, but they never take more than 8, so you know they are looking out for you every step of the way. We saw other groups with many more riders, and were glad we were in such ... morea small group. The rules were clearly explained - Billy was on a bike in the lead, and gave clear hand gestures to let us know when to stop, move over, etc. Kyle followed up in the van. One member of our group had a mishap early on, and they were right on top of it - checked to be sure the rider was OK (just shaken). She decided to ride in the van for the rest of the trip.

For me the first (steepest) part was the most difficult. I have small hands and they got quite a workout from all the braking. But - follow all the instructions (especially never cross the yellow line!), watch what the leader does, and you'll be fine. The bikes have nice big "tractor" seats. They are single-gear bikes, which was frustrating on the (rare) uphill stretches where I wanted to pedal sooner than the bike would allow. The helmets cover your full head and chin, which feels much safer than regular helmets. My bike was a little wonky in that it would clunk as I pedaled - Billy is going to take a look at that one.

We weren't sure what to wear, but I settled on a pair of bike shorts, some workout gloves, and a long-sleeved quick-dry shirt. That was just right for me. My boyfriend brought a sweatshirt as well, and wore that for part of the trip. You aren't starting at dawn, and not at the top of the mountain, so it isn't freezing. We did run into mist and a sprinkling of rain on the way down, but not a problem. We had a fun stopover in the "cowboy town" - the doughnuts on a stick are not to be missed!

Highlight of my trip to Maui
Overall:
Truly a highlight!!! This was gift from my sister so I knew very little going into the trip and was blown away by the experience. Great views, and a fun way to get a sense of the landscape of the island. The two Billy’s were fun, easy going and incredible knowledgeable. These guys have a great operation. They have everything you need (bikes, helmets, windbreakers). There are stops along the way for ... morepictures, water and snacks. This is a safe and fun activity. I would say a MUST if you are on Maui.

A fantastic add to our bucket list
Overall:
The most popular site on Maui is Haleakala volcano and the best way is on a bike ride down more than 20 miles with the two great guys Billy and Billy. Safety minded but an absolute blast as well  They even pointed out a unicorn grazing in a nearby pasture  Excellent equipment and commentary.

Excellent day biking down the volcano.
Overall:
Great time on Haleakala volcano. I have done both the morning sunrise trip and this time I did the afternoon trip with Maui Easy Riders. Sunrise on the top of the volcano is really a great sight to see. I also enjoyed the afternoon ride. It is a little warmer on the afternoon ride. The owners (Billy and Billy) were our guides. They were a great fun and kept the ride safe. I have been to Maui many ... moretimes and I consider this one of the most fun activities while visiting Maui. And I highly recommend Maui Easy Riders as your choice for the tour operator. Book early as they are very popular.

Great Ride! Great Day!
Overall:
A ride down Haleakala would be a great day spent no matter what, but Billy and Billy added that special Hawaiian touch of welcome and personal service that made this a great day that I hated to see come to an end. Their attention to detail and safety was super, but it was their engaging personalities and humor that made the day. No need to get up early to see the sunrise (that was probably covered ... morein clouds anyway). Just take their tour at their time, and the sights and smells along the road will astound you.
