Description:
This high-altitude drive over Saddle Road to Hilo and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the newest and most-exciting sightseeing tour on the island. This tour showcases the raw nature of the active volcano; Kilauea!
In our brand new Mercedes Sprinter Passenger van, we’ll drive over Saddle Road (2033 m. in elevation) through Parker Ranch, between the largest volcanoes in the road (Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa), and make a brief stop at Mauna Kea State Park for a light lunch. From there, we’ll continue along the Saddle and drop down into the historic town of Hilo. The first stop in Hilo is Rainbow Falls!
Experience the beauty of a Hawaiian waterfall and take pictures under the mango trees! Passing by downtown, we’ll stop at the King Kamehameha statue and pay respects to Hawaii’s Great King. Across the bridge and near the airport we’ll be sure to stop for about 20 minutes at Big Island Candies for a bathroom break. While there, guests are able to sample their famous cookies, sip some Kona Coffee, or cool off with an ice cream or smoothie. From there, we’ll head directly to one of the world’s most-active volcanoes; Kilauea at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There, Kailani’s guides will show off the amazing landscapes including: Steam Vents, Halemaumau Crater Smoke Plume, Jaggar Museum’s view of Kilauea Caldera, and Thurston Lava Tube! Just before sunset, we’ll provide an all-inclusive sit-down dinner at Volcano’s finest restaurant – Kilauea Lodge! Choose from three entrees, bread, soups, salads, and a beverage of your choice. After dinner, we’ll drive to Jaggar Museum, the best viewpoint for the nighttime glow at Halemaumau Crater! Finally, leave the driving to us as we journey back over Saddle Road to return you to your hotel. What to Bring: Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, camera, and a sweater or jacket for after sunset. What to Wear: Although Hawaii is home to the endless summer, there are places and times where the temperature can drop substantially. Weather at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park can range from 50 to 75 degrees F. Saddle Road temperatures can get even chillier to perhaps 40 degrees F. Kailani Tours Hawaii recommends wearing comfortable footwear, a hat and sunglasses, and shorts or long pants. Most guests wear a light jacket or bring long pants for after sunset. Recommendations: This tour is for guests 5 years and older. It does not include lengthy hikes. This tour is not recommended for women who are pregnant or may be pregnant. Passengers travelling with a wheelchair or walker are more than welcome to join our tour. Our spacious Mercedes passenger vans provide the ultimate in comfort for guests hoping to avoid large 50 passenger vans and want a more personal and authentic Hawaiian Experience. The Deluxe Volcano Experience is designed to give our guests an affordable first-class tour while experiencing all that Kilauea has to offer! NEW TO THE DELUXE TOUR: WEATHER PERMITTING, KAILANI TOURS GUIDES WILL SHOW OFF OUR BEAUTIFUL STARRY SKIES WITH A POWERFUL LASER POINTER. JACKETS AND A HOT BEVERAGE INCLUDED! EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF KILAUEA AND SEE THE BEST STARGAZING ANYWHERE!

Frequently Asked Questions
Click on the red "Book It" button and you will see live availability. Keep in mind availability changes constantly, so make sure to book in advance!
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
Most companies, if not all, require you to call them if you're trying to book something 2-3 days in advance. Do you really want to be spending your valuable time in Hawaii calling around to desperately find something that is available to do? While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Most companies have a set of centrally located hotels that they do pick ups from. When you select your hotel in the booking page, you will see the pickup location and directions. This makes the pickup process short so you can start the tour as soon as possible!
Lava flows change constantly; currently there is no lava flowing into the ocean that is accessible by boat and most active lava flow spots are only accessible by doing 7-10 mile hikes sometimes through private property or taking a helicopter tour where you can see it from the distance.
We operate 4 Mercedes Sprinter Vans with a maximum capacity of 14 passengers. So if you’re looking for a private romantic getaway for two, a small group of just a few, or you have a large corporate event or wedding, we can handle up to 56 passengers at one time! Should you have an even larger group, we can arrange to work with one of our sister companies to handle your needs.
ery! Our guides want to work for us because we pamper the guests AND the guides! Having driven low-roof, hard-seated, worn-out vans in the past, we understand the importance of being comfortable on the ride to the volcano.
Maintaining a fleet of Mercedes Benz passenger vans is more expensive than using inferior vehicles, but we’ll never cut corners on safety or customer service - ever.
Our brand new vehicle even has reclining leather seats! Our vans have high roofs to maneuver through the cabin, adjustable air conditioning, seatbelt extensions, cup holders, and large windows for the best views. Our audio/visual package is top-of-the-line with a large flip-down monitor and separate speakers for video and guide headset. This technology allows for the driver/guide to show video while narrating; it’s the ultimate way to cruise the Big Island!
We offer free front door pick-ups at all major West Hawaii hotels and resorts. We also offer the option to meet at a central meeting point to accommodate a busy vacation schedule, if you prefer. For bed and breakfasts or smaller resorts, we’ll be happy to work with you. Leave the driving to us!
Our vans are equipped to handle easy storage of a wheelchair or other medical equipment. We do not have a wheelchair lift, however. We have also installed an extra hydraulic side step for extra easy on and off for all riders.
When you book your tour, you have the opportunity to make your lunch and dinner meal selections from among multiple options, including vegan or vegetarian. We’ll also pass on information to the restaurants about any food allergies ahead of time. That’s Aloha!
The Deluxe Volcano Experience, our signature volcano tour, does not include any walking longer than 20 minutes. Should guests chose to skip any of our short walks, our guides will be happy let them rest at Volcano House, the Visitor’s Center, or Jaggar Museum. The tour is not recommended for women who are pregnant or may be pregnant. Passengers travelling with a wheelchair or walker are more than welcome.

We've chosen to work with the best restaurants and caterers on the Big Island to bring our guests an experience of all five senses. We like to eat well and our guests do too! For the Deluxe Volcano Experience, we provide a catered picnic lunch and an exquisite restaurant dinner at Kilauea Lodge. Between meals, we make a stop at the best candy factory in Hawaii – Big Island Candies! Along with lots of free samples, guests will have the opportunity to purchase ice cream, smoothies, or a hot cup of Kona coffee. Alcohol and desserts are also available for purchase at dinner.
Tipping is, of course, at the discretion of the tour guest but is customary when great service has been provided. We think our professional tour guides are the very best on the planet and we know they appreciate receiving acknowledgements for their expertise, humor and ability to make your tour memorable!
Although some cell phone carriers have spotty coverage on the Big Island, we’ll be within cell phone range for most of the tours. Private or charter tours to Waipio Valley will have very limited cell phone coverage. Locals seem to prefer it that way, too. We will have a charger on board in case your battery runs low, but some guests bring their own mobile battery charger. Then again, it might actually be nice to set down your phone for a while, too. We also rely on “The Coconut Wireless” or shouting across canyons to communicate.
On most holidays, we do operate. However, we do not operate our regular tour on the Ironman World Championships in October, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Our suppliers don’t operate on those days, so we’ve elected to do the same. Our guides have to get to the beach sometimes, right? If you or your group do wish to tour on a holiday, call us and we will be happy to make arrangements with other restaurants that may be operating that day.
