Professional Tour Guide
Description:

This is the traditional bike route with an added bonus,  making it the longest bike ride in the industry!

Your Maui Bike Tour begins there,  with a comfortable and informative  30 minute drive to the Kula Lodge, where we’ll make a brief rest room stop. 15 minutes will be given to check out the gift shop there.

Then, we drive another 30 minutes up scenic Haleakala Volcano , to an elevation of 6700 feet above sea level. We then get the bikes ready, go over safety and rules,  then. ..IT’S TIME TO ROCK AND ROLL!

Your Maui bike tour begins at the top of Haleakala Ranch, and the first 7 miles we will be twisting and turning through 19 switchbacks and hairpin turns..all while descending to 4700 feet above sea level!  After that 7 mile stretch, at the bottom of the ranch, we stop to load up the bikes, turn around, and go back to the top to do it AGAIN. Because it is THAT AWESOME.

The second leg of the bike ride is the longest. Starting again from top of the ranch, we bike 18 miles, through the ranch, then through some of the most picturesque towns on Maui…the towns of Kula and Makawao. This stretch is mostly downhill and when we stop in Makawao, we’ll be at an elevation of 1700 feet above sea level.

Once in Makawao, we take about a 45 minute break where you’ll be treated to an amazing lunch at one of the hidden treasures of Maui….the Makawao Garden Cafe. You’ll also have a little time to check out this awesomely unique little town.

After lunch, it’s back on the bikes for the final stretch. A 7 mile downhill coast, passing pineapple fields and sugar cane fields . We’ll bike through the town of Paia and end the journey at the beach, Baldwin Beach Park.

After some high fives, fist bumps, and hugs, you’ll be more than welcome to dip in the ocean to cool off, take some pictures, and just enjoy the beauty of the area. We’ll then get you back to Kihei and Wailea and say our Alohas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Several things: 1. Length of the bike ride. Because the other companies include a tour of Haleakala crater before their biking, they don’t have the time for a long bike ride. Their biking distances range from 15-25 miles. Maui Bombers is only about the bike ride, so we have the time to add distance. Our bike ride is 32 miles. 2. Equipment. As mentioned earlier, single speed beach cruisers are used by the other companies. Again, great bike for coasting down the volcano. Maui Bombers uses top of the line Trek Hybrid bikes with 24 speeds and thinner tires…makes for a much faster and smoother ride. When a group is maintaining the speed limit, there are less traffic passes to make…faster, more fluid bike ride. 3. Group size. The other companies will max out with 13 bikers per group. Maui Bombers only rides with 6 at the most. Small group =half the time to do traffic passes. Again, faster and more fluid bike bike ride. Smaller groups are more personal too. More fun. More space in the van! We have the same 15 passenger van as the other companies, but with a max of 6, it’s like luxury. 4. Our tours are catered to experienced bikers only. This is the Maui Bomber way. You have to be able to keep up! If you’re unsure, that’s what the other companies are for.
As far as clothing goes, we provide wind breakers. The temperature change from the beginning of the Maui bike tour to the end of the tour is about 30 degrees. Usually in the upper 50s to start and upper 80s at the end. So bring extra clothes if you want to shed. Also, bring your bathing suit if you want to cool off in the ocean at the end of the tour. Sunscreen is recommended.
Click on the red "Book It" button and you will see live availability. Keep in mind availability changes constantly, so make sure to book in advance!
H Tours Hawaii is a "one stop shop" for all the best activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Since we work with many providers, reservations are necessary. WE HIGHLY recommend making reservations, as many activities are at a discount when you reserve in advance. Some providers even charge higher for those "walking in" because they know chances are you're not going to walk away. Finally, a reservation ensures you have a space on the tour. Trust us you don't want to spend so much time and money to come to Hawaii and then miss out on an activity because they were booked out!
Choose the tour you are interested in, click the red “Book It” button adjacent to the tour information, and complete the booking form.
Most companies, if not all, require you to call them if you're trying to book something 2-3 days in advance. Do you really want to be spending your valuable time in Hawaii calling around to desperately find something that is available to do? While we can usually accommodate most last-minute bookings, we highly encourage those that are checking out our website far in advance to book 2-3 weeks prior to desired date. You never know if there's a convention, special event, or an increase in overall visitors in town, and it would be a shame if the activities that you want to do are sold out because you waited until the last minute. Basically, if you know you want to do it, just book it!
Gratuity is never required but if you enjoyed your experience, a tip is always greatly appreciated!

Best in Maui!
Overall:
My wife and I decided last minute to take the "Cycle to the Sea" bike ride down Haleakala Volcano. It was amazing! The views were incredible. It was super fun and because it was such a small group we were able to go fast enough to feel a thrill and slow enough to take in the magnificent views. We stopped for lunch at a cute little town and were able to get the best coffee and donuts in Maui. All in ... moreall we highly recommend it will definitely be back to ride all over again.

A NOTE ON SAFETY: On the drive up, we saw several groups of bikers spread out and disorganized. Matt and his team put safety first which went a long way towards us enjoying our ride. Groups are limited in size half of that of other companies. We had a van following us to "block" cars coming down and to keep an eye on the group. Also, the bikes were excellent and the seats were comfortable. The attention to detail is what allowed us to fully enjoy our ride.

I can't recommend Maui Bombers enough.

Looking forward to our next visit.
