Volcano Adventure Highlights
We will spend approximately 15 minutes to one hour at each location. The order of the stops is subject to being changed but you will get to see them all!
Hilo: Drive through this historic town, now a quaint setting for merchants and shopping!
Rainbow Falls: Experience the awe inspiring sound of this 80-foot waterfall as it rushes over a natural lava cave into a large pool below, almost 100 feet in width. This natural wonder is a perfect spot for a photo opportunity.
Volcanoes National Park: Your admission is included to this site. The park, built in 1916, displays the results of 70 million years of volcanism, migration and evolution of volcanoes! There is so much to experience and take in this is a once in a lifetime adventure.
Jagger Museum: This hands-on museum has films of previous eruptions and current activity. Admission is free! Discover the informative displays and scientific instruments used today by volcanologists.
Kilauea Iki Crater: A large volcanic crater pit with proximity and annexation rights claimed by the mighty Kilauea Volcano itself. Visitors may view Kīlauea Iki from either a lookout point or the trail head parking lot. Currently guests can hike across Kīlauea Iki from Byron Lodge which overlooks the crater, as well as walking along the crater floor on what once was a lake of lava.
Thurston Lava Tube: Nahuku also known as the Thurston Lava Tube, an easily accessible lava tube, will allow you to walk where once red lava flowed. Consider also that lava currently travels from Pu'u O'o, flowing to the ocean in a labyrinth of lava tubes much like the tube you are walking through. Watch your head in the tube - there are some areas with a low ceiling!
